| Police Authorities in Mexico: |

There are different police organizations with different functions:
- The Municipal Police maintains order, provides surveillance, prevents crime and assists citizens. These police officers wear uniforms. The State Police are part of the State Attorney General office and are responsible for investigating crimes and carrying out arrest warrants issued by the judges. These police officers do not wear uniforms (only in special operatives).
- The Federal Highway Police monitors traffic and inspects proper vehicle documents. These are federal, uniformed police officers. They investigate automobile accidents on Federal highways and supervise railroad areas too.
- The Judicial Federal Police are part of the Attorney General's Office and investigate crimes contained in the Federal Penal Code. These officers are not uniformed and operate on both a national and interstate basis.
- The Public Treasury has a police department which is in charge of verifying the legal entrance of merchandise and vehicles coming into Mexico.
- The Federal Preventive Police operates in all of Mexico's airports. Its main function is to keep the order, prevent crimes and assist citizens.
